Defense (DETA)


With the ongoing changes in defense spending priorities, Ohio’s defense-dependent companies can help ease the impact on their business with the help of the SBA’s Defense Economic Transition Assistance (DETA) Program.

The DETA Program, delivered by the Ohio MTSBDC Program, is designed to help eligible small businesses and potential entrepreneurs transition from defense to civilian markets.

To participate in the Program, you must be:

  1. A military or civilian defense worker negatively iimpacted by defense transition or BRAC; or

  2. A defense contractor negatively impacted by defense transition or BRAC; or

  3. A businesses geographically locateded near a Department of Defense or Energy installation negatively impacted by defense transition or BRAC. 

The Ohio MTSBDC network has established tailored educational and consulting services designed to help these businesses discover new partnerships and sales opportunities throughout the global marketplace.  Services include:

New business Management and Strategic Planning Consulting;

bullet

Networking Assistance;

bullet

International and Prime Contractor Training Opportunities; and

bullet

Access to DELTA, the SBA's Defense Loan and Technical Assistance Program.
 

This DELTA Program is specifically targeted at providing financial and technical assistance to impacted small businesses to help fund the transition to the commercial marketplace.  Similar in structure and operation to both SBA’s 7(a) and 504 Loan Programs, these loans must be used to either retain jobs, create jobs, or support plant retooling or expansion.
